Kayaking at Silver Glen Springs
Denise led a kayak tour to Silver Glen Springs this week to do some critter-watching.

Silver Glen Spring is a beautiful, crystal clear spring in the Ocala
National Forest. More than 35 million gallons of water flows from the
two spring vents, down through the river run, and on into Lake George,
the largest of the St. Johns River Chain of Lakes.
Silver Glen Springs is a popular recreation area and an important
archeological site. Swimming, snorkeling, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife
viewing and hiking are some of the activities enjoyed here. Manatees
visit the spring in the winter as a thermal refuge from the cooler
waters of the St. Johns River and a wide variety of saltwater and
freshwater fish visit and inhabit this spring.
The entrance fee to Silver Glen Springs is $5.50, and its is very easy
to launch canoes & Kayaks here. There is lots to explore in the head
spring & river run.
There is no scuba diving allowed here, but it's shallow enough to
snorkel and free dive. Lots of fish & turtles have made Silver Glen
their home....
